What Teenagers Hope For

To be seen with respect.

To find out who they are.

To learn how to trust themselves.

To perceive clearly.

For the voice to count.

For their gifts to be honored.

To love and be loved.

To not be judged.

To be guided but not told what to do.

To be given choice.

To learn how to relate closely.

To become independent.

To be part of community.

Ken Robinson
is a teacher and healer of unbroken ancient lineage of teachers of Ka Ta See, Ways of the Eastern Andes. Ka Ta See means "setting the world in balance."

Experience with Youth
Ken has worked with youth for over twenty-five years as a camp director, private and public school instructor, and counselor.

"Watching Ken as he works with kids in a talking circle or group setting, I am always moved by what he makes possible. He makes each person feel seen and special, without embarrassment. He demonstrates his profound respect by really listening. I do not exaggerate when I say that I watched kids transform in a week at camp with Ken."

- parent and camp board member

Teen Mentoring

Guidance to Assist Them When They Need it Most

Being a Teenager Today
Being a teenager today often is a very  mixed experience, with lots of ups and downs and unknowns, for everyone involved. It is a strikingly powerful and often unsettling time in a young person's life when they are moving from their childhood and into early adult life. In our western culture that generally means years of turmoil and struggle for these young people and worries and concerns for parents.

They Are Seeking
Being a teenager is really very special. It is a period in young people's lives when they are seeking their power and independence and their own way of authentically relating with life and community. There is always going to be excitement around the corner with such a quest!

Rites of Passage - Entering
A New Level of Awareness

Teenage years are rites-of-passage years. It is a time when they are called to dig into their potential and come up with something they can count on in themselves. This is an opportunity for them to awaken a new level of awareness that is theirs alone. They is when they need to find a strong loving sense of Self and find direction, to know who they are and where they are headed, even if they might not know their final destination and goal. They need to find the beginning of their paths, where they can find and feel their legs to stand on.

Time to be Addressed and Respected
Adolescence was so respected in many ancient peoples that they made it a primary part of their cultural ways to offer caring mentor-like relationships, teachings, and ceremonies that helped young persons find their center of balance during the intense challenges of adolescence. Without this focused attention on them, the young people only would become lost and separate. They would end up trapped in their own confusion and turbulent emotions, which is no fun for anyone.

Young People
Gatherings

Individual and Group Mentoring with Ken**

Ken provides individual and group mentoring to young people. The process involves the following:

  • ongoing development of a caring and enjoyable connection between the interested young person and Ken; this fosters trust, equality, discovery, and fun.
  • teachings and discussions that help young people awaken to who they are, their gifts, and their direction in life
  • ceremonies that give young people the means to know who they are and how to connect with others and with life itself. The Ceremony of Finding Your Song, for example, is one of these ceremonies. This meditation-like ceremony was given to youth in their puberty in the Ways of the Eastern Andes. All ceremonies are described beforehand to the parents and teenagers.
**Please note that these gatherings are not therapy sessions. The gatherings are based entirely on the ancient knowledge of Ka Ta See and in no way provide western modalities of diagnosis and treatment. These meetings are educational in purpose.
